Summarize

Sum, count, max, etc. across items

Usage and specifics

Use Summarize to calculate one value from fields in a list. To preserve values in an array without calculating them, use Aggregate instead.

With manual input { "tasks": [{ "minutes": 12 }, { "minutes": 8 }, { "minutes": "" }] }, set source to input.tasks, field to minutes and operation to sum.

Expected output:

json
{
  "operation": "sum",
  "field": "minutes",
  "result": 20,
  "count": 3
}

result is the calculation; count is the number of source items. Missing, null or empty values are excluded from the calculation. With operation: "count" on this same field, result is therefore 2 while count stays 3.

Numeric operations convert values and ignore those that do not yield a number. If no numeric value is found, they return zero. If an incorrect or missing field should block processing, validate it before this node: a numeric result alone does not prove data quality.

Technical type : summarize. Runtime : nodulz.

Credentials and prerequisites

This node defines no dedicated external credential. Remote sources or execution targets may still need their own access credentials.

See the credentials guide if a remote source or execution target requires access.

Parameters

Names below are technical keys. Defaults are not a ready-to-run configuration: complete fields required by your operation. Paths containing [] describe list items; some fields depend on the selected mode.

Parameter Type Default Values / limits
source string "" -
field string "" -
operation enum "count" sum, count, min, max, avg

Initial configuration

Initial catalog configuration example, to adapt before running. Keep secrets in credentials.

json
{
  "source": "",
  "field": "",
  "operation": "count"
}

Verification

With this example, check a sum of 20, an average of 10 and a count of 2 populated values. Then test an empty list. In later nodes, read nodes.summarize1.result, adapting the technical name, rather than confusing this result with count.
